Dr. Shana Buchanan

Veterinarian, Owner

Hello, I'm Dr. Shana Buchanan! Growing up with my loving dachshund Fritz by my side, I decided at a young age that I wanted to be a veterinarian and never looked back. Excelling in science and math during high school, I worked hard throughout my collegiate career. Now, I am both a licensed veterinarian and the owner of Bridgeway Animal Clinic, Lakeway Animal Medical & Surgical Clinic, and Western Hills Animal Medical & Surgical Clinic. I practice at all three clinics.

Born and raised in a small Texas town, I grew up surrounded by my extended family, including cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and great-grandparents. I am of Cajun and German heritage and have an older brother with whom I remain close despite our age difference.

I received my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M. Shortly after, I was accepted into veterinary school, starting just ten days after graduating with my undergraduate degree. Additionally, I completed my MBA in 2007 to better manage my own clinic. I am also certified in Veterinary Acupuncture, Veterinary Chiropractic, and Veterinary Chinese Herbal medication and a proud member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.

My decision to become a veterinarian was fueled by my lifelong love for animals and my dedication to science. My passion was further ignited when I witnessed a cocker spaniel regain complete range of motion in her neck after only a few acupuncture treatments, inspiring me to learn more about alternative medicine.

As a veterinarian, my favorite aspects of the job are internal medicine, alternative medicine, geriatric care, client education, and interacting with pets daily. I find immense satisfaction in helping pets heal and educating their owners about proper care and treatment options. I thrive on tackling challenging cases, regardless of the subject matter, and collaborating with clients to achieve the best outcomes for their pets.

My husband, who is also a veterinarian, and I enjoy interacting with our two children. Our daughter has a contagious laugh and makes astounding observations, while our son is a rough-and-tumble boy who smiles and laughs from sun up to sun down. When I am not caring for animals or spending time with my family, I enjoy reading, exercising, traveling, gardening, quilting, and sewing.
