Dr. Shana Buchanan

Veterinarian, Owner

Growing up with her loving dachshund Fritz by her side, Dr. Buchanan decided she wanted to be a veterinarian at a young age and never looked back. She excelled in science and math during high school and worked hard throughout her collegiate career, and now she’s both a licensed Veterinarian and the Owner of Bridgeway Animal Clinic, Lakeway Animal Medical & Surgical Clinic, and Western Hills Animal Medical & Surgical Clinic! She practices at all three clinics.

Dr. Buchanan was born and raised in a small Texas town and grew up around all of her cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and great-grandparents. She is of Cajun and German heritage and has an older brother who she remains close to despite their age difference.

Dr. Buchanan received her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M. Afterward, she was accepted into veterinary school and started only ten days after graduating with her undergraduate degree. She also has an MBA degree that she completed in 2007 which she got to manage her own clinic. In addition, Dr. Buchanan is certified in Veterinary Acupuncture, Veterinary Chiropractic, and Veterinary Chinese Herbal medication!

As a veterinarian, Dr. Buchanan’s favorite things about her job are alternative medicine, client education, and interacting with pets daily. She was inspired to learn acupuncture after seeing a cocker spaniel regain complete range of motion in her neck after only a few acupuncture treatments.

Dr. Buchanan’s husband is also a veterinarian and enjoys interacting with their two children. Dr. Buchanan’s daughter has a contagious laugh and makes astounding observations, and her son is a rough-and-tumble boy who smiles and laughs from sun up to sun down. When she’s not caring for animals or spending time with her family, Dr. Buchanan enjoys reading, exercising, and sewing.
