Dr. James Kaaz

Lead Veterinarian, Chief of Staff

When he was in the 10th grade, Dr. Kaaz was involved in the Future Farmers of America organization, and he realized a career in veterinary medicine was his true passion. He never considered anything else, and his journey led him all the way to his current position as the primary Veterinarian at Western Hills Animal Medical & Surgical Clinic!

Dr. Kaaz grew up in Spring, Texas. During high school and eventually college, he worked at veterinary hospitals to gain experience. After high school, he went to Texas A&M for both his undergraduate studies and veterinary school. He worked at practices in Oklahoma for 11 years before coming back to Texas and working as a staff surgeon in Kerrville. The desire to be closer to his family motivated Dr. Kaaz to move to Montgomery, where he joined the Western Hills team in 2009.

Surgery is Dr. Kaaz’s favorite part of veterinary medicine. He loves coming up with creative solutions to challenging cases and says his knack for fixing things translates well into surgical skills.

Dr. Kaaz is married to his best friend, Courtney. Their oldest son, Kade, is a musician. Tanner is the second oldest and plays guitar and is very active in church while he finishes school. Seth plays the saxophone and is learning to play the guitar. He also plays football and basketball. Jenna participates in basketball, swim team, and Girl Scouts. Stephanie is learning gymnastics and loves to ride her pony in parades and around the house. A true animal lover, she loves to help her mommy and grandma feed and take care of chickens, ducks, horses, dogs, and cats.

The family has two dogs, a horse, a pony, and two cats. Zeus, a Pug, is always getting into trouble. Honey, a mix breed, is a fierce protector of the home. Biscuit is their affectionate indoor cat, and Monk prefers the freedom of outdoor life, for better or worse. Both cats were adopted and treated for problems, and have become members of the Kaaz family.

When he has time between work and his family, Dr. Kaaz enjoys fishing, working in the yard, and cheering on the Texas A&M football team.
